ASHILL VILLAGE HALL NEWSLETTER
Committee: Mrs. J. Speke (Chairman); Mr. P. B. Newman (Treasurer);
Mrs. J. Simmonds-Short (Sec); Mrs P. Newman (Bookings Clerk); Mr. B. Goddard;

Mr. J. Wickham
The Committee was thrilled to learn last week that the hall has been awarded the Hallmark One Award from the Community Council of Somerset, and information about the award is attached.
The SSDC Environmental Health Inspector carried out his inspection recently and gave the hall a clean bill of health, other than recommending that hot water heaters be provided in the Gents and Disabled toilets. Since these electric heaters are expensive to buy and install we have applied for a grant towards the cost and continue to raise funds to pay for these should the grant not be awarded.
The paperwork for the new Public Entertainment Licensing has now been completed and sent to SSDC. New liquor licensing laws (which will cover the provision of alcohol on the hall premises) come into force in November when the responsibility for the issue of temporary licences will pass from the Magistrates' Court to SSDC.
The hall refurbishment continues and the disabled parking area and ramp into the hall for ease of access have now been completed. The kitchen fitting is now complete and only the painting of the walls and ceiling remains to be done. When funds are available, we also plan to paint the toilets and lobby area.
An application for a grant has been made to provide non-slip flooring in the kitchen, entrance lobby and toilets, and we hope to be advised of the result of that application by the end of August.
The following fund raising events are planned:
20th August Cheese and Wine Party (tickets available from Peggy Newman:
tel. no: 01823 480808)
11th September Companion Dog Show (in field adjacent to the hall)
22ndOctober Concert and Buffet Supper to celebrate the English Victory at the
Battle of Trafalgar
26th November Concert by 'Conspirito' and buffet supper
The first meeting of the Seniors Lunch Club will take place on 9th September starting at
11.30 a.m., and transport is available if required.
The total raised for our funds from the car boot sales was £691.12, and we would like to thank everyone who helped every Friday afternoon and others who supported the efforts.
